Free Online Countdown Timer — Count Down to Any Date
This free countdown timer lets you create a personalized countdown to any future date and time. Choose from 37 visual themes — birthdays, weddings, holidays, sports events, product launches, and more. Each theme features a rich background image and matching color scheme. Add a custom title, pick a font style, set your target date and time, then click "Create Countdown" to generate a permanent countdown page. Share the link on social media, in chat, or embed the countdown directly on your website. Each countdown gets its own page with a custom Open Graph preview — so when you paste the link into Slack, iMessage, or Twitter, it shows your countdown title and date.
How to create a countdown
Choose a theme, type a title, set the date and time, then click "Create Countdown" to get a permanent shareable countdown page.
- Choose a visual theme from the grid — 37 themes covering holidays, life events, sports, seasons, and more. Selecting a holiday theme (like New Year or Christmas) automatically sets the correct date and title.
- Enter your countdown title and pick a font style (sans-serif, serif, monospace, or cursive). A live preview shows how your title will look.
- Set the target date and time. Check "Same clock time in every timezone" if the event happens at the same local time everywhere (like New Year midnight).
- Click "Create Countdown" to generate your countdown page with a live ticking display, themed background, and share controls.
- Copy the shareable link to post on social media or in chat. Use the embed code to add the live countdown to your website or blog.
Why Use a Custom Countdown Timer
Countdowns are the most-shared time tool on the web. Wedding planners embed them on event sites. Teachers share exam countdowns with students. Product teams add launch countdowns to landing pages. Sports fans count down to game day. Every shared countdown links back to your page — and every embed includes a small credit link. Selecting a holiday theme like New Year, Christmas, or Thanksgiving automatically fills in the correct date — no manual lookup needed.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this countdown timer free?
- Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no app download. Create as many countdowns as you want.
- How many themes are available?
- There are 37 visual themes organized into categories: life events (baby, birthday, party, wedding, vacation, retirement), sports (football, basketball, boxing, ice hockey, wrestling), holidays (New Year, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year, Black Friday), seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter), and events (gaming, launch, road trip, sale, election, vote).
- Can I share my countdown?
- Yes. Every countdown gets a unique shareable URL. When you paste the link on social media or in a chat, it shows a custom preview with your title, date, and themed background. You can also copy an embed code to add the countdown to any website.
- Do holiday themes set the date automatically?
- Yes. Selecting a holiday theme like New Year, Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Thanksgiving, or Chinese New Year automatically fills in the correct upcoming date and title. You can still change the date manually if needed.
- What does "Same clock time in every timezone" mean?
- When checked, each viewer counts down to the same clock reading in their own timezone — like New Year midnight, where Tokyo reaches zero before London. When unchecked (the default), everyone counts down to the same moment in time — like a product launch at 2 PM Eastern.
- Do I need an account?
- No. The countdown is encoded entirely in the URL — no database, no login. The link is permanent and works forever.
- Can I edit my countdown after creating it?
- Yes. Every countdown page has an Edit button that takes you back to the creation form with all your settings pre-filled.
- Can I embed the countdown on my website?
- Yes. After creating a countdown, copy the embed code. It's a standard iframe that works on any website, blog, or CMS.
